Although bonded labor was outlawed in Pakistan years ago, the practice has continued, and even expanded, in the country due to a worsening economic crisis.
A Kiln Lord may provide them with a small clay brick house. The family, a third of whom are children, may be paid only 7500 rupees ($45) per month per family, which is insufficient to buy food and basic needs. They end up borrowing more, especially for medical needs which keeps them in eternal servitude. Some indentured servants even resort to selling their own kidney to relieve the financial pressure. They typically work 16 hours per day, 7 days a week.
A lack of formal education also keeps them from breaking out of poverty. Most Christian indentured servants do not know how to read or write. When the parents die, the debt passes on to the children who then are also trapped in this web of human exploitation.
Depending on the region within Pakistan, illiteracy rates are as high as 96%. 67% of all children drop out of the compulsory education system by age 6. Pakistan has the 2nd largest uneducated population in the world. The opportunity that Grace Charity School provides is nothing shy of a miracle.
“A 2004 study by the International Labour Office (ILO) estimated that there are up to a million "haari” families in Sindh alone, the majority living in conditions of debt bondage, which the U.N. defines as modern-day slavery. Last fall, Pakistan's Daily Times newspaper quoted the labor minister of neighboring Punjab province as saying that landlords hold millions of forced laborers in "private prisons" across the country.” – TIME, “Pakistan's Forgotten Plight: Modern-Day Slavery”,

“Pakistan Bricks - There are reports that children in Pakistan work under conditions of forced labor producing bricks. According to the most recently available data from the media, the ILO, and a university study, there are hundreds of thousands of these children across Pakistan. The brick industry uses a system of bonded labor under which children, from a very young age, often work alongside their debt-bonded families. Because the debts are sometimes inherited, many children are born into bonded labor.
Under the Pakistani “peshgis” bondage system, families are not free to leave the kiln and are forced to produce quotas of 1,000 or more bricks per day under threat of physical violence or death. Brick workers, including children, are forced to work without masks, goggles, gloves, shoes, or other safety equipment.”

It's not enough to merely redeem an indentured servant. There is a whole family to consider. And, the reason they ended up as an indentured servant (taking a loan, or inheriting a loan) is likely to repeat itself and they will need redemption again without preventative action. The solution must be redemption, education, a trade, and health care to meet their physical needs. It needs also to include their need to freely worship God, to grow in Christ, and be a witness.
Redeeming Love is (in the process of becoming) a non-profit organization that seeks to redeem Christians from indentured servitude, provide academic education for the children, vocational training and academic education for adults, an opportunity to make a reasonable living, and the opportunity for Christians to live free, become prosperous, and productive members of their community and nation.
When Redeeming Love redeems a family, they are free to go - no obligation. We offer them the opportunity to participate in our community. If they agree, the family is provided a home in the community. The children may attend Grace Charity School. The Adults are provided an education and a trade. The hours are reasonable. Their salary is an equal division of the Trade's profit between the workers. They are free to leave the program at any time, at which time we will help them transition.
Victor and Wassem Samuels run Grace Charity School, a non-profit school for poor and indentured slave children. Funding is always a struggle but the cause is important and Victor works with conviction to enable its continued ministry.
Recently, Wassem Samuels moved to the United States from Pakistan. He shared with Dale Cobb and Daniel Cobb the condition of the Pakistani Christians. It was then that God spoke to Dale. God hears the prayers and tears of the Pakistani Christians and God will answer those prayers to His glory and the edification of His people.
Dale asked Waseem and Daniel to dinner in January of 2023 and shared what God had laid on his heart, that we needed to help the Pakistani Christians break free from the bondage of indentured servitude. Even more, to educate and ensure that they never again fall back into bondage, but become able to support their families and witnesses of Christ's redeeming love.
To date, we have solidified our mission plan (though we are always open to God's guidance, your thoughts, and ideas), values, goals, and contacts in Pakistan (Victor with Grace Charity School).
We are now looking forward to submitting our paperwork for becoming a 501C3 Charitable Organization, recognized by the United States of America Federal Government, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the local government.
With God's help and the support of people like you, we are excited to realize the fruits of our labor so that Christians in Pakistan become free, grow in Christ, establish a firm foundation, and share their testimony about God's redeeming love.
Redeeming Love Missions is all about the Mission and Values. Our Directors are not paid. Your information goes no further than us. Except for reimbursements for things like internet, domain, website, materials and travel to bring awareness and opportunity, we currently have very little cost. Once we start the Succoth, buy cows, etc., when the mission kicks in, there will be more expenses. If given a choice between prayer and donations, we'd pick prayer every time, but donations ser needed too. So if you cannot donate, please pray with us that God will help us, and others, intervene to answer these Pakistani Christians' cries, to the Glory of God and the edification of His people. Thank you!
